I'm Lisa Foster
My nana was a quilter and my first artistic inspiration. The tiny pieces of fabric that once scattered her floors now fill my studio and canvas. I am in love with these fabrics, their sentiment and aesthetic. I am a figurative painter, drawn by the shape of the person and their life. My portraits are imprints of what was, a reflection on impermanence, and an appreciation for the beauty of a life well-lived. My paintings are composed with reproduction quilting fabrics; their patterns originate from the colonial period up to the 1930’s. Referencing the art and love and domesticity of our grandmother’s, I adorn and glorify, heal and harbor and look with longing for all we have yet to achieve.
I was born and raised in Western Ma. Currently, I teach in Springfield, reside with my teens and pets in Holyoke, and keep a studio in Northampton.
I have attended studio and Academic courses at Georgetown, Boston College, School of the Museum of FIne Arts, Tufts University, Harvard College, University of Minnesota and UMASS Amherst.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
